"Constantinople was called Polis (The City) because it was the most beautiful city in the world"

from the film "A Touch of Spice"

This website is an effort to present and promote an almost forgotten and in many cases misunderstood European civilisation called Byzantine or Eastern Roman or in a word Romiosyni. It was developed around Constantinople (modern day Istanbul) and it extended from Spain to Anatolia, with its boundaries changing through the centuries.

From a young age I started reading about these people, that they may be the only example in mankind history that “forced” the official state to adopt the language and culture of its people.

After an eventful visit there on March 2004 my love for this culture grew and a deeper interest for the people still living there has been developed.
